Who We Are
Bean Research is an independent research agency specialising in social impact, evaluation and social value. We partner with charities, funders, and businesses to understand, measure and strengthen social value.
Our small, collaborative team combines rigorous research with storytelling that makes impact and evidence meaningful and accessible. We’re a Living Wage Employer and Disability Confident organisation, with social impact built into our legal structure. Our values guide everything we do. You can learn more about Bean, our projects and the team.
What You’ll Do
This is a new role designed to support our research and evaluation projects, while also strengthening our internal systems and client service. It is an excellent early-career opportunity who is eager to develop their skills by working alongside a senior team (each with 10+ years’ evaluation experience).
As our Research & Evaluation Officer, you’ll support the design and delivery of evaluation projects across a diverse client portfolio, including funders, charities and corporates. You’ll set us up to efficiently collect and analyse data, craft learning and impact reports and develop case studies of change, and help keep our internal systems and client communications running smoothly.
Your work will help funders, charities and social businesses understand what’s working, what’s changing, and how to grow their impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support mixed-methods evaluations and conduct literature reviews, desk research, benchmarking and synthesis of evidence to inform evaluation design.
- Analyse quantitative and qualitative data to identify insights and stories.
- Draft engaging reports, dashboards and impact-focussed case studies.
- Manage data collection processes and ensuring quality assurance.
- Support the development of proposals, theories of change and impact frameworks.
- Liaise with programme teams, delivery partners and funders to coordinate evaluation activities and fieldwork logistics.
- Keep the Bean Research website, Bean’s LinkedIn and our Insights/Blogs updated, supporting the team to deliver external communications.
- Maintain HubSpot and project trackers, and coordinating client updates.
What You’re Good At
- Turning data into clear stories that help others learn.
- Managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Writing accessibly and clearly for different audiences.
- Bringing curiosity, energy and structure to your work.
- Taking initiative, problem-solving, and working independently within a small team.
- Working autonomously while collaborating closely with colleagues on shared projects
- Staying abreast of best practice in evaluation and social value.
What You’ll Bring
- Around 2 years’ experience in research, evaluation or impact measurement (through employment, volunteering or academic work).
- Strong analytical and data-handling skills (Excel/Google Sheets)
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- An organised, proactive approach and strong attention to detail.
- Confidence in managing your own workload and diary in a hybrid environment.
- Enthusiasm and curiosity for research, evaluation and supporting organisations to learn from that and create more impactful change as a result.
- Familiarity with survey tools such as SurveyMonkey, as well as HubSpot, Canva or AI applications.
- Knowledge or interest to learn about social value or SROI methodologies.
- Basic data dashboard development skills (PowerBI/Tableau or similar)
- The right to work in the UK.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and life experiences. If you don’t meet every criterion but feel you could thrive in this role, we’d love to hear from you. We value curiosity, commitment and potential.
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll have a dedicated line manager and work across our senior team in a matrix structure, gaining mentoring and exposure to different evaluation approaches and styles of working. You’ll also liaise directly with clients and delivery partners at a very senior level.
What We’ll Provide
- Salary: £26,500–£28,000 (depending on experience)
- Holidays: 25 days’ annual leave + bank holidays
- Volunteering: 2 paid volunteering days each year
- Pension: NEST (opt-out)
- Flexible working: Hybrid model (minimum two days per week in London)
- Professional development: Up to five training days per year and opportunities to attend sector events (such as Anthropy UK, Charity Evaluation Working Group UK Evaluation Society, Market Research Society, Institute of Social Value, etc.)
- Culture: A supportive, collaborative environment where you’ll be trusted to manage your own work and encouraged to share ideas.
- Growth: You’ll be supported to build your career in evaluation, with opportunities to take on more responsibility and shape our approaches as you grow.
